FLL Challenge Class
A weekly competition-style robot design and programming class for students in grades 3–6 at UP Robotics in Bethesda, MD.

FLL Challenge Class is the bridge between weekly robotics projects and a competitive team. Students solve authentic mission-style problems on a challenge field while developing stronger robot design, programming, testing, and strategy skills—without the tournament commitment.

What students do

Class or team?
Choose this class when your child wants competition-level robot work but cannot yet commit to two weekly practices, tournaments, and a full season. Choose an FLL Challenge Team when your child is ready to add the Innovation Project, judging, team roles, and tournament participation.

Frequently asked questions
Does the class compete at tournaments?
No. Students use competition-style missions and fields, but tournament participation belongs to the team program.
Does my child need to own a robot?
No. UP Robotics provides the robotics platforms and challenge materials used in class.
Can this help my child join a team later?
Yes. The class develops the build, programming, mission, and collaboration skills that make the transition to an FLL team easier.
